On May 13, 2021, during the commensurate period of the 4th Modern Prevention of Cardiogenic Stroke, also CIC Structural Heart Disease Forum Conference, Shanghai Shape Memory Alloy Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as 'SHSMA') and its MemoLofort LAA Closure Occluder I made a debut in the ancient capital of Chang'an, and a marvelous academic feast was presented through various forms covering satellite conferences, sharing of clinical application experience, and broadcast of surgeries.

The satellite meeting gave invitation to Professor Zhang Yushun from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Professor Song Zhiyuan from the Southwest Hospital of the Army Military Medical University, Yang Yining from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region People’s Hospital, and Professor Zeng Anning from Qiannan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture People’s Hospital as chairmen, and invited Professor Hu Haibo from Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Professor Wang Hongtao from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Professor Zhang Songlin from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University to deliver wonderful academic speeches. Professor Hu Haibo presented Identification and Prevention Strategies of PFO/ASD and Atrial Fibrillation-related Stroke, made clear that non-valvular atrial fibrillation and patent foramen ovale formed risky factors for ischemic stroke, PFO/ASD integrated atrial fibrillation tended to show a higher incidence of stroke, and more attention should be paid to stroke prevention. For now, safety and effectiveness of PFO and LAA interventional therapy have been testified and continuous emergence of related domestic devices has greatly advanced development of the course on stroke prevention. As a domestic LAA closure occluder, MemoLefort shows good performance in clinical application and can safely and effectively guard against Cardiogenic stroke.
Professor Wang Hongtao presented Sharing of Operational Skills of MemoLefort LAA Closure Occluder I, and applied three cases of MemoLefort's clinical application experience and his personal experience in LAA closure to elaborate features and operational skills of MemoLefort, a domestic occluder with a plug design.
The First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University is one of the domestic clinical centers with ample experience in prevention and treatment of cardiogenic stroke. Professor Zhang Songlin used his experience on single-center ASD/PFO integrated LAAC closure “one-stop” operation to deliver a wonderful lecture on Treatment Strategies of Heart Disease Integrated Atrial Fibrillation and MemoLefort Clinical Application Experience.
At the conference, Professor Song Zhiyuan and Professor Zeng Anning also gave wonderful comments on use of MemoLefort LAA Closure Occluder I and the 'heart & Brain Cerebral Treatment’.

The conference was chaired by Professor Zhang Yushun of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, hosted by Professor Fan Fenling and Professor Hu Zhi from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Professor Deng Jie from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Xi’an Jiaotong University. Professor Hu Hao, Professor Jiang Xiaofei, and Professor Zhang Yan, all surgeons who have practice with MemoLefort LAA Closure Occluder I, referred to their own ample clinical experience, and elaborated operating characteristics of MemoLefort occluder in the process of clinical use, and key points of operation and its characteristics and advantages as a domestic occluder with a plug design. Professor Hu Hao indicated that as a domestic occluder with a plug design, MemoLefort bore semblence other occluders with a plug design in key steps such as interatrial septal puncture, instrument preparation and exhaust, and sheath operation, so learning curve would be short, but it called for attention paid on particularities in depth and related operational aspects. Professor Jiang Xiaofei indicated that MemoLefort LAA Occluder had a moderate degree of hardness and could fit to different atrial appendage shapes well. Professor Zhang Yan indicated that MemoLefort was reasonable in designing and handy in operation, and showed good performance in clinical applications.

During the conference, Professor Zhang Yushun from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University also led his team to deliver a wonderful demonstration of MemoLefort LAA closure surgery.
Basic information of the patient:
Male, 62 years of age
Atrial fibrillation, atrial septal defect (central type), cerebral infarction, hypertension level III (highly dangerous), coronary artery muscle bridge
Four-cavity cut surface: big double room
LAA section 0 degree, 45 degree, 90 degree, 135 degree opening diameter/depth respectively at 23/31mm, 24/33mm, 25/35mm, 25/33mm
Atrial septal defect: 5mm, defect is 10mm from the fossa ovale; pulmonary artery systolic pressure 47mmHg
Measurement of foramen ovale at quiescent condition: right atrium opening 2.2mm, left atrium opening 3.3mm, length 19.8mm
This surgical demonstration is a special case on ASD+PFO+LAA occlusion, in which the patient’s ASD is located in the lower position, but the defect is small, and it is difficult to apply ASD traffic to conduct LAA closure and axial direction is poor after it reaches the auricular appendage radiography through PFO. So Professor Zhang Yushun’s team applied the strategy of low-order puncture at the rear end close to ASD position, so that sheath can reach the upper atrial appendage and achieve better coaxiality. After comprehensive evaluation of DSA measurement and TEE measurement, Professor Zhang Yushun’s team applied a MemoLefort occluder with a disk diameter of 30mm for closure. After the occluder was unfolded, the occluder was stretched stably, was free from residual shunt or shoulders, and compression ratio was approximately 23%, perfectly in align with the principle of release.
After LAA closure operation, Professor Zhang Yushun’s team successfully completed ASD and PFO closure, and applied one operation to help the patient dispel worries of stroke, and thus helped perfectly realize the cardiogenic prevention of stroke.
In clinical practice, brain disease often coincides with the root lying in cardiac disease. Clinical studies have confirmed that PFO/ASD atrial fibrillation has a higher incidence of stroke, and more attention should be paid to stroke prevention. For now, safety and effectiveness of PFO and LAA interventional therapy have been proven. MemoLefort, a domestic APP occluder with a plug design, can effectively prevent occurrence of cardiogenic stroke.
In the future, SHSMA will continue to provide better products for a wide base of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular patients, and continue to support development of China's 'heart and brain treatment' so as to help more patients to stay away from the risks of stroke.
